International Nurses Day 2018

May 11, 2018 0 Comments

Saturday 12th May 2018 is International Nurses Day and a day to celebrate all the hard work nurses do to provide individuals with the best care. Nursing in 2018 is a dynamic and modern profession. Nurses roles are so varied and from working closely with our Nurses we know that no two days are the same, this International Nurses Day we want to say thank you for dedicating your careers to delivering outstanding patient care. Over 300,000 nurses work in the UK alone, all in different settings and providing individual care to those who need it.

Even though we don’t need a single day to celebrate, International Nurses Day celebrates the contribution nurses make to societies around the world: it falls on the 12th May each year as it is the birth date of one of the most respected and known nurses of all time, Florence Nightingale. International Nurses Day encourages people to take the time to thank a nurse or show appreciation of the work that they do.

We want to promote the activities and challenges that nurses come across daily. 2018 celebrates the theme of ‘Nurses: A voice to lead – health is a human right’.

The NHS deals with over one million patients every 36 hours, this alone shows how much pressure nurses are under and the work they must tackle within their working hours. Nurses overcome many obstacles during their shifts however you will see them smiling to ensure that their patients receive the best possible care with a happy attitude.

We would like to thank all the nurses we work alongside for their continuous hard work and determination to help others. Every month, TFS Healthcare celebrates a nurse that one of our employees have nominated with our Nurse of the Month scheme. It is important for us at TFS to have a strong relationship with our nurses to ensure that they are always happy and enthusiastic about the work they are doing. All our nurses show amazing work and caring attitudes towards others and we are grateful that we have such amazing individuals representing us.

In celebration of International Nurses Day 2018, here at TFS Healthcare we have received the below comments from our own nurses on why they love nursing:

  1. This is a very good question, I love being a nurse for many reasons. As a nurse I can be present at the most important moments from life to death. I love providing care, comfort, support, and smile. I love to be trusted. I love being dedicated to care for sick people. As a nurse I never have a day that’s the same, or same shift; every single day is a new adventure. I like being able to be there, where not many people wish to be, where the help, understanding, professionalism, and tolerance is needed the most.
  2. Nursing to me is never ending learning. It is the finer details that keep me motivated. A simple chat with an elderly person while helping them to the loo can be just as invigorating than nursing a person all night fighting their septic infection and keeping them alive. Basic interaction with such a variety of people and listening to some of the stories of one’s battle with for example cancer can make you realise how special this career really is. I will always hold special memories of certain patient’s brave journeys close to my heart.
  1. My consultant, Thomas Wright, is the best; he is the only consultant who visits his nurses at their place of work and asking if they are ok – this makes our work worthwhile to know we are appreciated.
  2. The feeling of knowing that I have done everything in my possible power to provide the best care for that patient is the reason I love being a nurse.
  3. Making patients smile and knowing I have helped patients when feeling unwell from treatment care through to discharge.
  4. I had always wanted to be a nurse ever since I was a little girl and still after 20 years I love my job and making a difference.
  5. I love being a nurse, having compassion and empathy to look after patients when they are unwell and helping make their experience at hospital better.
  6. Going home at the end of the day with a smile on my face knowing that I have made a difference and I have done all that is possible to help and care for patients during my shift.

There are many ways to celebrate and get involved with International Nurses Day, celebrating the work that nurses do doesn’t have to be extravagant- it can be a simple thank you and a warm hug to make a nurse feel appreciated and good about the work they do.

To all the nurses out there, well done and thank you for all the hard work you do to care for others, for doing the best you can to save lives and improve them. You continuously put smiles on patients faces and you should be celebrated and thanked every day.
