OT Week: Celebrating Occupational Therapy!

Occupational Therapy Week 2020 is running from 2^nd – 8^th of November, so now is the perfect time for us to talk about how essential this career is to health and care services across the UK.

Occupational Therapy is a relatively small profession, but it in fact has an immense impact on people’s lives. OTs provide support for those who face challenges managing day to day activities. They help individuals regain skills and independence, allowing for greater participation in everyday life, making it a hugely rewarding career choice.

This week let’s be extra proud of our Occupational Therapists and the genuine impact they make to health and wellbeing services.

Candidate in focus – Ruth 

We recently caught up with Ruth to find out more about her perspective on this profession and to ask her some revealing questions! Ruth is currently working for us as a senior OT in Margate, Kent. She has been in this role since April 2020 specialising in elderly rehab. She’s hardworking and dedicated to the care of her patients.

1. Why did you come into the OT profession?
Because I am nosey and love snooping round other people’s houses.
2. What do you love about your job the most?
Knowing I help people to get their lives back together, often when they thought it wasn’t possible.
3. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Scuba Diving, Gardening, making flavoured Gin & throwing parties (pre-Covid obvs).
4. What are your favourite things to eat and drink?
I enjoy trying food from other countries, I’m cooking a lot of Thai & Japanese food at the moment.  I like to drink anything fizzy.
5. What three things would you take to a desert island?
A library, Spotify & a wine making kit.
6. Interesting fact about yourself?
I once bunked off school to be in a music video with George Michael.
